Around The World In A Glass: 5 International Cocktails To Try In Hong Kong

Hong Kong is often described as a melting pot of cultures and nationalities. This month, we’re spotlighting some of the best new cross-cultural libations in the city – because “melting pot” basically means cocktail, anyway …
CHINESOLOGY’S LICORICE
What better way to get a taste of China than via a Chinese medicinal herb-inspired cocktail? Fortunately, Chinesology, as the name suggests, celebrates the Tang Dynasty’s vibrant drinking culture with an eclectic list of cocktails fusing Chinese tradition with contemporary Western mixology. Inspired by the revered medical text, Bencao Gangmu (Compendium of Materia Medica), newcomer Licorice is an infusion of gin, Lillet Blanc Vermouth, home-made preserved plum liquor and medicinal liquorice-root topped with tonic water, making for a refreshing and potent cooler with a subtle hint of bitterness.

New addition It’s Thyme celebrates the latter – a smoky mezcal mule elevated with thyme-infused agave syrup and kombucha. MAJO’S MAJO MARTINI
Located in the heart of Soho, Majo Tapas Paella Bar offers indoor and open-air courtyard dining, much like the famous bodegas in Spain. And while the venue might be most famous for its Spanish-style roasted Iberico suckling pig, the drinks menu alone is worth a visit too. The signature Majo Martini is a prime example why. Mixing G’Vine Floraison, Amontillado and dry vermouth, the cocktail is topped off with a skewer of pickled onion, anchovy and olive for a savoury twist.
